The Cheshire Cat Pub is a unique British style pub just outside of Kanata. When you walk in past the red telepone booth, it feels really authentic with the unusual "kitch" that you would find in pubs in England. We were just there, and found that they had taken off most of there regular drafts to replace them with Ontario craft beers. My husband was sad to not have a pint of Erdinger, but we learned that they were doing this to honour Ontario Craft Brew Week and found ourselves trying The Flying Monkey and a pint of Neustad 10w30 (beers I had never heard of!) Good for them we thought! We also learned that most of the menu incorporates local produce, meat and dairy. Anyway, the food was amazing! Pub fare, but with serious style. I had the Chicken Curry, my husband had the hamburger special and our friends both had the fish and chips.
The service was friendly and laid back and the owner came up to introduce himself and made us feel like we had been coming for years. It was hopping busy! This is truly one of those places that we will return to time and time again! We can't believe we waited this long to come in!

We had a variety of items and beers. Food was good (especially the F&C) , service was acceptable ( it was packed) and the environment was fun. We all had a great time and we plan to meet back again ..same place , same time!

My wife and i came here for a night out. We had been recomended the Brew Table by the concierge at the Holiday Inn down the street. We had the steak frites and it was incredible. Cooked perfectly and the service was the best i have ever recieved anywhere. An amazing dining experience all around from appetizer to dessert. Will definately be coming back and definately be recomending to family and friends.

Wife and I came here for our wedding anniversary and we were not disappointed. Everything tasted so good. The salmon, the steak and the appetizers were cooked perfectly and tasted excellent. definately will be back again.

If you only have a one hour lunch then this is definitely NOT the place for you to eat at that time.
We arrived and it was busy. The place seems cramped but it appearred to be clean. We had reserved a table for noon and waited a while to get seated. When the waitress finally made it to our table we ordered drinks and our food at the same time. It took a long time just to get our drinks and a very long time for our food. It ended up being an hour and a half lunch. Most other restaurants in the area offer a quick lunch so people can get back to work in a timely fashion. This is where The Wood falls drastically short.
The food was good, this I will not dispute. By burger was juicy and cooked perfectly and the salad with balsamic dressing was fresh and nice also. Unfortunately the speed of service will have to keep me away from this restaurant.

WOW! This restaurant is fantastic...The food was fresh and the taste was amazing not to forget that the portions are very generous. I will be going back without a doubt and I will most likely become a regular. Wether you are in the mood for Greek food or not, trust me you need to try this place! I came here for lunch a few months ago and was very impressed. We arrived just as the place opened up; the upstairs dining area had not been opened yet. Regardless, I asked if we could have a table on the upper level and the wait staff accommodated our request and opened up the upstairs area and we were given the option to have our choice of any table we wanted. We chose a table on the North side of the restaurant with a great view of the By-ward Market. My burger tasted a little dry but as I had never tried buffalo or bison before I didn't know if that was normal or not. Aside from that the atmosphere was so nice I probably would have even enjoyed a bad meal in that restaurant, sitting where I was.

Firstly, know that you're paying for the food, not the atmosphere. Perfect for what I was seeking that night, but probably not a place to take a first date.
Second NOT VEGETARIAN FRIENDLY. At least as of Feb. 9th 2008, all of the items had meat.
The rice (and sauce) was divine; the chicken was done well; I was less impressed with the xaniid though, it might have just been that night as they are supposedly known for it. It was decent, but not great.
Highly recommended for take-out / student-chow, decent for eat-in.
